Belgium: Update – Pilots at Brussels Airlines hold second round of strike as national demonstration hits local transport in Brussels
Pilots at Lufthansa (LHAG.DE) subsidiary Brussels Airlines staged the second of two planned days of strikes regarding pay and conditions on Wednesday, 16 May,
grounding about 75 percent of the Belgian carrier’s flights. The strike coincides with a national demonstration against pension reforms, which is also affecting local
transportation services in Brussels and other parts of the country.
The Brussels transport operator Stib (metro, bus and tram services) has been severely affected as well as other regional transport providers such as TEC and De Lijn.
Some 30,000 demonstrators in Brussels gathered at Gare du Nord at around 11 a.m. and plan to concentrate at Gare du Midi at 2 p.m., local times, according to L’echo.
